Week 52 means a year of these midweek newsletters! Thanks for reading, and greetings from chilly, overcast Chicago, where it’s currently raining. My kitchen is blessedly warm, and I’m listening to the trendy (though cancelled) Heavyweight podcast. The small space benefits from a lovely wood-burning fireplace, a glorious luxury I do not take for granted, and soon it’ll be up and running for the winter. This time of year always makes me think of how more romcoms should be set here.
If you’re also in Chicago, and if you are un- or under-insured (like me), you can get a free covid booster and flu shot through one of the city’s immunization clinics. I’ll be at Sulzer Library’s on Saturday!
🍂 Sweater weather
After an extended bout of unseasonable sun and heat—I went to the beach last Saturday and into Lake Michigan! in a bathing suit!—the weather finally turned here in Chicago. There’s nothing I can say that SNL didn’t say better. Cold snaps mean getting cozy. I’ve been swanning around my home in the waffle bathrobe from Brooklinen that was a gift from my mother when I moved to LA two autumns ago.
I also found an oversized black vintage cashmere cardigan from Poshmark (not unlike this one) that I’ve been wearing when I leave the apartment, and have been thrilled at the fashionable return of dusters. Now all I need is an extravagantly warm smoking jacket.
